Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001 is server component that provides search and document management.

Microsoft SharePoint Portal workspaces are created by an administrator and assigned collections of folders, management tools, categories, or indexes.

Dashboards are provided for the users to access and information available within the workspace via reusable web parts.

Users have access to features such as:

• Searching and browsing document categories based on roles
• Content subscribtion
• Checking documents in and out with version control
• Approving documents
